Carlee Fowler
Carlee Fowler, a senior in fashion and textile management with a concentration in product development, left for New York City in May 2010 to learn so much more than she ever dreamed in an internship. As an intern at Polo Ralph Lauren in their Woven's Knits division, she assumed she would be pushing papers, filing and only getting glimpses of what her first real job might be like. She was with other interns from FIT and Parsons and she quickly found that the degree she was receiving at NC State was preparing her well for life after college.
She and the other interns were offered different challenges and Carlee excelled and impressed the Polo team so much, that it allowed her more opportunities than she could have imagined. She had the chance to attend design and technical meetings, worked with fit models, learn how to prepare garments for mass production, drape garments, and correct patterns. Carlee says, "it was exciting to see how much my degree had prepared me for the things they threw at me. It was wonderful to work in such a energizing environment and to see that I could compete and excel against other students at prestigious design schools."
Carlee was offered a job upon completion of her internship. A job that would have started immediately, but Carlee, from Cary, wanted to finish her degree and graduate in May 2011.
