If a student needs/wants to drop a course after the official drop day, there are two situations we consider.
- If this is not a textile course, the student must present their textile advisor with strong reasons for this. Doing poorly in the class is not a reason unless there are extenuating circumstances. The student would have a stronger case when it comes to our office if there had been contact with either their advisor (preferably) or our office about such circumstances if they were NOT of a sudden or tragic nature. If the advisor supports the student's request, the advisor is to send an email to me stating the course and reasons. I will then meet with the student to make a decision. Advisor support does not guarantee approval since the decision will be made in light of the student's academic history.
NOTE: Herein is one big change. Because this is such a small college, I have often known about circumstances because of contact with the counseling center, parents, teachers, etc and did not involve the advisor. This will NOT be the case from this day on. - If the course is a textile course, it requires the permission of the textile course teacher before asking the advisor to support dropping the course. Again, approval by the teacher and support from the advisor still does NOT guarantee the course will be dropped.
- Only tragic emergencies will result in any courses being dropped the last 2 weeks of the semester. We are understanding that life does happen and override school at times.
