The minimum requirement for a Master of Science degree (Option B) is the satisfactory completion of 33-MS course work hours in Textile Chemistry. There is no thesis or foreign language requirement, although a final comprehensive oral examination is required. A student must develop a Plan of Graduate Work under the direction of his/her TC faculty advisor.
To obtain an MS under Option B, a student must complete 2 semesters (6 credit hours) of TC 630 to the satisfaction of the student’s program advisor. The results of this course work will serve as the basis for the final oral examination, and must be presented no later than two weeks prior to the deadline for submission of degrees for the semester in which the degree is to be awarded. Under normal circumstances, fulfillment of the final examination requirement is expected to be in the province of the student’s advisor in cooperation with an examination/advisory committee that would include a minor representative and a third TC faculty member.
Graduate programs that are to be earned totally through TOP are designed for maximum flexibility. This is necessary since only a limited number of courses can be offered on TOP every year. Not all courses listed in the North Carolina State Course Catalog can be provided through TOP.
