What do I do about registering for classes early if my AP or IB scores are not back?
When I register early, what else must I do so that my schedule is “official”?

What books are required for T 101?
Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson is required summer reading. In addition, a planner that meets strict requirements is needed. These requirements are explained here. http://www.tx.ncsu.edu/academic/early_registration/read5.html -
How can a student access their official NCSU email account?
This account is available to a student as soon as they confirm they are coming to NCSU. -
Why are you telling FTM and TTstudents not to take CH 101 and the lab, CH 102, in the fall if it is shown on
their degree information?
Years of experience have totally supported the fact that this course is intimidating for most first semester students. There will be around 275 students in a room that seats over 350 and is actually a theater style room that covers two floors of a building. I know all about this room since I taught chemistry there for almost 15 years. ONLY TE and PCC students need to be enrolled in chemistry their first semester. All others need to wait. -
What is the difference between 100 and 200 level PE classes? Do I have to take a 100 level before a 200 level?
Generally speaking 100 level courses are not focused on a specific sport/activity while 200 level courses are. You are required to have two PE courses to graduate, at least one must be a 100 level course. You do not have to take a 100 level course before the 200 level course. You can take as many PE courses as you wish and they are great stress relievers. -
Why do you warn against 8:05 classes?
The reason is simple. You have great intentions but what you cannot possibly appreciate very much right now is how much will go on late at night in the dorms that will keep you up far later than you think. ASK a college student you know about this. For the few of you who are absolutely early morning people, go for it!! Just remember, somehow 8 am gets earlier and earlier the longer the semester goes. -
Do you already have college credits from a community or other four year college/university or AP and IB work
done before your senior year? Are you hoping for more credits at the end of the senior year?
You must have transcripts sent from the community colleges or other schools sent to the Admissions Office as soon as possible. We can better register you for classes in May if you do this. Also, AP or IB scores from before your senior year must be officially sent to NCSU. Did you do this already? If not, you need to request that now. -
What are these “Q” classes you are mentioning in the Early Registration information and why are they special?
Once more, these classes are for freshmen only and are usually limited to no more than 25 students. Read the information carefully about these classes. The only difference between them and other classes as far as adding them to your schedule is that the letter “Q” must follow the course number. NOTE: If you participate in the University Scholars Program, these courses count as scholars credits needed to receive final recognition as a USP graduate.LIMIT: One “Q” class per semester is allowed your first two semesters only at NCSU.

What do I do about registering for classes early if my AP or IB scores are not back?
They will not be back. The only course this usually impacts a lot is math. We can and will make some changes once these scores are returned to you. The main course to be concerned about is math. If you are decently confident that you’ve done well enough to receive credit in other courses such as history, psychology, etc., then by all means, don’t register for one of those courses until we see.MAJOR NOTE: Please don’t sign up for a course you already know you have credit for from community college course work.

When will I be billed for the fall?
All questions about billing need to be addressed to the Cashier’s office. For information about billing dates, check here. http://www.ncsu.edu/registrar/calendars/registrationfall.html -
Why do some classes like math have something else you must sign up for, like MA 131P or MA 107l that is 0 credits?
These are special “classes” that are part of the entire math class and are usually part of larger math sections. These are for small group work, quizzes, etc and you must be enrolled in them if they are part of the math class you choose. Smaller math classes usually do NOT have these with them. When you register, the system will prompt you to add one of these if it is required. -
Are foreign languages required in textile degrees?
No but we highly encourage students to study abroad and to take language. You are required to take a language placement test if you want to continue in a language you’ve already studied.
NOTE: All languages start with the 101 and 102 levels but these levels do not count in any degree at NCSU.You will be provided time to take language placement tests at Orientation. We can add a language if you wish then or you can add one when you register early and change it later if needed.
ADIVCE: Take the language placement test during Orientation if you think you will ever take more of that language. -
When I register early, what else must I do so that my schedule is “official”?
Not one thing else is needed. Once you enter your classes in the MY PACK registration site, you are officially registered. This starts the entire billing process at the same time.
