Why is the College of Textiles special? The NCSU College of Textiles is very well known and recognized across the country for its academic programs and facilities of Textile learning. Individuals (both internal and external) with whom I work have a lot of respect for me, as well as my professional abilities based on my education and affiliation with NCSU COT. No other textiles program is a well rounded and comprehensive in the education and experience gained by its students.

Current Responsibilities: Research, design, create and develop innovative, performance oriented, and technically appropriate materials and fabrication direction for NIKE Apparel/Accessories product. Promote and optimize Nike's position in the sports and fitness industry world-wide by providing materials trend/innovation direction, technical expertise, cost analysis and manufacturing direction for all Apparel product and process teams.

Career Path: Worked 2 years as a Laboratory Specialist for both Chemical/Environmental and Pharmaceutical Labs in North Carolina. While working in at these labs (both in the Raleigh area), I continued to take Post-Baccalaureate courses in TES curriculum at the COT before beginning some graduate level coursework. I left graduate school to take a position in Fall River, MA as a Process Engineer with Quaker Fabric Corp. (Upholstery Fabric Manufacturer). Worked with Quaker for 1.5 years and left to return to North Carolina as a Management Trainee with Collins & Aikman Co. at their MasterCraft Upholstery Fabric Manufacturing facility in Siler City, NC
Before leaving graduate school, I interviewed for a position in Beaverton, Oregon with Nike, Inc. as a Laboratory Supervisor for their Apparel Testing Lab. At the same time I was interviewing with Quaker Fabric Corp and felt that Massachusetts was a lot closer to home (North Carolina) than Oregon, so I accepted with Quaker and Declined Nike's job offer. Again while working for Quaker I was courted by Nike, but was not ready for the move across country. On their 3rd attempt, I finally accepted Nikes job offer as the Global Lab Manager in Beaverton, Oregon.
After 2.5 years as Global Lab Manager, I was recruited internally for an Advanced Materials Researcher position for Apparel. While performing as an Advanced Materials Researcher for 2 years, I was promoted to a Senior Researcher position, still within the Advanced Materials Research group.

What is your work environment like? Nike is an absolute dream in terms of work environment. The World Headquarters campus where I work has to be one of the most serenely beautiful places anyone could ever work. Here, you don't feel as though you have a job, you are contributing to the continuing dream of athletes around the world. No matter what work you do for Nike. It would be very, very difficult for me to work someplace else and be happy to show up at work each day.
My co-workers all have attitudes toward success. Various backgrounds, experience and training add to the day-to-day excitement and success of the company. The culture here is a winning culture and we each work to win in the market and in our personal and professional lives. It is expected that we play well to stay well and work well, so the daily routine of most employees is to take time out to workout in or on one of the sport centers, sport fields, courts, trails, or the track. This helps us maintain healthy bodies and healthy creative minds!
