Textile Alumni Society

The Textile Alumni Society (TAS) was started in 1991 to better serve the alumni of the College of Textiles . The Society was initially funded by the North Carolina Textile Foundation (NCTF) and alumni donations. Beginning on July 1, 1993 , and continuing today, it is funded solely by alumni contributions. Emily Parker '96 (B.S.-TXM) is the director. One of only two alumni societies tied to a specific college at NC State, the Textile Alumni Society coordinates and plans various activities for College of Textiles graduates, including fall football reunions, Lifetime Career Services, and a quarterly email newsletter, Wolftext.

One of the most important functions of the Textile Alumni Society is the Lifetime Career Service (LCS), a job assistance service that is available to all College of Textiles alumni. Kent Hester, Director of Student and Career Services, oversees the Lifetime Career Service. To use the LCS, a textiles alumnus either calls or visits the Textile Alumni Office or mails in a copy of his or her resume. Once the initial contact is made, a file of resumes and references for each alumnus is set up. After a resume is filed with the LCS, it will be cross-referenced with all new job openings submitted to the College of Textiles and, with the consent of the alumnus, faxed or mailed to textile companies. Fully funded by alumni contributions, the LCS is free to alumni who have contributed at least $100 to the College of Textiles . For other alumni, the service is available for $30 per year. Many textile companies post job openings through the service, which has helped place more than 50 College of Textiles graduates each year in new jobs.

The Textile Alumni Society also publishes a quarterly email newsletter, Wolftext, which is sent to all alumni that supply an email address. The newsletter contains feature articles on students, college faculty members and alumni, and news articles on happenings at the college. Each issue of Wolftext contains job openings for positions with textile companies as well as a listing of upcoming events planned by the Textile Alumni Society. To subscribe to the Wolftext please click here and simply fill in your information.
