The College of Textiles will be recognized as the world leader in all areas of textile education, research and industry support.  

Mission Statement

The mission of the College of Textiles is to be the premier international institution for textile education, providing education of the highest possible quality to degree and non degree students alike through the use of innovative teaching techniques, and providing a vision of the future for industry and the citizens of North Carolina and the nation through excellence in research and outreach.

Key Strategies and Goals 

Key Strategy 1: Students

North Carolina University State College of Textiles will provide all students with leading educational opportunities in all areas of textile engineering, chemistry, design, technology, and management. We will continuously improve all educational areas and emphasize lifelong learning.

Goal 1 : We will expand our enrollment by improving recruiting throughout North Carolina , attracting new out-of-state students, attracting new transfers from Community Colleges, attracting internal transfers from within NC State University especially from First-Year College , and attracting more international undergraduate students.

Goal 2 : We will improve our retention rate of first-year students and four-year, five-year and six-year graduation rates.

Goal 3 : We will continuously improve and change our course offerings, curricula and degrees based on the needs of the students and the entire industry - defining the industry very broadly.

Goal 4 : We will maintain our historically high placement rates while expanding career opportunities for all students.

Research

North Carolina State University College of Textiles will provide worldwide leadership in research for advancing textile science, technology, and industry practice.

Goal 1 : We will double our federal research funding by expanding our sources of funding, creating viable research partnerships, and improving our research capabilities.

Goal 2 : We will double our industry-sponsored research funding by increasing memberships and support to our three research centers and consortia, creating new research centers, and developing new research relationships with new industry partners.

Goal 3 : We will significantly improve our research capabilities by adding new labs and equipment, developing new research partnerships, and adding faculty and staff in key research areas.

Goal 4 : We will target selected textile research areas and invest in sufficient resources to become a leader in these areas.

Economic Development and Extension

North Carolina State University College of Textiles will provide comprehensive educational, research, and service support to the textile industry throughout the world.

Goal 1 : We will expand our educational services to the textile industry by developing new courses that need the needs of the industry and increasing enrollments in both our short courses and in-plant course.

Goal 2 : We will develop new means to deliver training and education services to the textile industry worldwide by internet, DVD, CD and other means.

Goal 3 : We will improve our testing and analysis services to serve the needs of a rapidly changing textile industry.

Goal 4 : We will continuously improve our applied research capabilities by adding new laboratories and equipment and through strategic partnerships with research organizations and key industry groups.

Faculty and Staff

We will assure recruitment, professional development, support, and retention of skilled, satisfied, and valued faculty and staff.

Goal 1 : We will continuously improve our search processes to identify, recruit and hire to top faculty in our field.

Goal 2 : We will improve retention of faculty and staff.

Goal 3 : We will improve all support processes for faculty and staff.

Goal 4 : We will continuously evaluate all staff positions and strive to recognize and reward outstanding performance through every means possible.

Finance

We shall assure financial viability to fund all missions of the College of Textiles . We shall share all information required to support resource accountability and efficient operations at all levels of the organization.

Goal 1 : We will continue to improve all information sources and databases to make all necessary financial information easily available to all who need it.

Goal 2 : We will improve the utilization of all funds eliminating redundancies wherever possible, improving efficiencies, and setting priorities for the expenditure of funds.

Goal 3 : We will achieve our development goal of $50 million bringing new funds for scholarships, faculty support, and facilities into the college. We will involve all faculty and staff in our fund raising and the setting of the priorities for use of these funds.

Goal 4 : We will continuously strive to identify sources of support for all critical activities in the college bringing in new funds, equipment, and resources to support all goals. 

Information Technology

As a primary means of supporting and improving our educational, research, and industry support strategies; we shall develop, deploy and use leading information technology capabilities.

Goal 1 : We will develop the infrastructure to support all computing and electronic communications needs of the college.

Goal 2 : We will develop the leading media services support for our faculty and staff.

Goal 3 : We will develop outstanding web services supporting the goals of the college, the departments, the centers, student services, and goals of faculty and staff.

Goal 4 : We will provide support for core and innovative technologies that help instruction, research and business processes essential to the college.
