Giving Opportunities

The North Carolina Textile Foundation depends on industry friends to provide the funds needed to support vital programs at the College of Textiles. State funding covers less than 50 percent of the College's operating budget. It is thanks to the generous support of individuals, corporations and foundations that the College of Textiles maintains its world renown reputation - a reputation for exceptional educators and researchers, excellent facilities and outstanding students at the undergraduate and graduate level who will become the leaders of tomorrow's textile industry.

The North Carolina Textile Foundation gratefully accepts a wide range of gifts. Donors may provide support in whatever manner they find most advantageous. The following types of gifts are most commonly used:

  • Cash, both individual and corporate matching gifts
  • Securities, including closely held stock
  • Real estate and personal property
  • Insurance policies naming the Foundation as beneficiary
  • Limited partnerships, mortgages and notes, patents and copyrights
  • Deferred gifts or will bequests, including charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities and charitable lead trusts

Unrestricted gifts are most appreciated because they allow the Foundation to allocate funds where the need is most urgent. Unrestricted gifts provide the flexibility to address new opportunities and critical issues as they arise. Many donors prefer to contribute towards a specific program, scholarship, named professorship, graduate assistantship or other Foundation program. Scholarships can be designed to meet a donor's unique wishes. To discuss giving opportunities or initiate an endowment, please write or call us.

Gifts, Scholarships and Naming Opportunities

  1. Gifts in any amount may be donated to the NCTF. The Foundation accepts a wide range of gifts including cash, securities, closely held stock, real estate, personal property and other types of gifts. Gifts should be made payable to the North Carolina Textile Foundation, Inc.
  2. The Alumni Scholarship accepts undesignated gifts in any amount from all Textile alumni. Alumni that work at the same company are encouraged to pool their contributions and determine if employee contributions qualify for a "matching gift" from the company. Many companies offer a matching gift program that enables your individual gift to grow in significance. The NC Textile Foundation can provide assistance in setting up an alumni scholarship at your place of business, if desired.
  3. Scholarships may be either endowed or funded annually . An endowed scholarship is permanently funded by the donor and scholarships are awarded from investment income. Endowed scholarship may be funded over a period of several years as desired by the donor. For an annual scholarship, the donor sends a check to the Foundation each year for that year's scholarship. Scholarship amounts vary with the donor's annual contribution. We strongly encourage donors to commit to four years of scholarship support . Incoming freshmen are awarded scholarships and these scholarships are renewed for 3 additional years, given appropriate academic progress and grade point averages.
  4. The Foundation's Named Scholarship program has 4 components: NCTF Centennial Scholarships, NCTF Scholarships, NCTF Prestige Scholarships and NCTF Merit Graduate Fellowships. All scholarships are based solely on merit and do not consider financial need as part of the selection process.
    • Centennial Scholarships : Named to honor the college's 100 th anniversary, these are the top scholarships awarded with an annual value of $15,000. Centennials are awarded each year to incoming freshmen with the highest academic achievement in high school, proven and potential leadership qualities, extracurricular activities and unique life experiences. The scholarship is designed to cover tuition and fees, on-campus housing, meals and a $7,500 special enrichment fund that may be used for study abroad, leadership programs, career explorations or other approved enrichment activities. All Centennial Scholars take part in a unique honors class offered during the first year.
    • NCTF Scholarships : A four-year scholarship with a $5,000 annual award. This scholarship is given to those students who are Finalists and the next highest ranked candidates for the Centennial Scholarship.
    • Prestige Scholarships : Offered to the next highest-ranking candidates who were not awarded Centennial or NCTF scholarships, Prestige scholars are awarded $2,500 per year for four years. This amount currently covers tuition and fees at the College.
    • NCTF Merit Graduate Fellowships : Fellowships for graduate students require a minimum of $10,000 per year to fund a stipend for teaching, research and to cover health insurance.
  5. Naming Opportunities : Naming opportunities cover a broad range from $25,000 for a small classroom up to $3 million to name one of the buildings. Various conference rooms, lounges, laboratories, a convocation center, an outdoor plaza and many other spaces within the textile complex may be named for amounts ranging from $50,000 to $1,000,000. If you are interested in a naming opportunity, we will be more than happy to work with you to select the most appropriate space.
  6. Chaired Professorships : To create an endowed Chair requires a contribution of $1 million. Such named professorships are established to recognize the scholarly research contributions of faculty members or to attract a nationally recognized individual with scholarly credentials such as membership in one of the National Academies. As part of its Achieve campaign, the College seeks to endow professorships in Nonwovens, Fiber and Polymer Science and Brand Management.
