Extension and Applied Research Announces 2002 Professional Development Schedule

By Coleman Rich, Director of Professional Education Programs

One program sponsored by Extension and Applied Research is the Professional Development Program.  This program consists of a series of continuing education seminars.  The program attendees include owners, CEOs, Presidents to the supervisor level and include personnel from companies throughout the supply chain.  Representatives from many international companies also attend our programs.

Most of our seminars use a combination of lecture and lab demonstration.  The lab demonstrations help to reinforce the learning process because the participant can witness a product being made versus pictures and/or video.  We are the only Textile College in the United States that has a Model Manufacturing Facility that demonstrates all the processes in the textile supply chain.

Our seminars are not just 6 to 7 hours of lecture.  Many participants find real value in our social and dinner that is held the first night of every course and allows valuable networking opportunities for the participants, faculty and supplier representatives.  It’s a great way to relax and get to know your classmates after a full day of presentations and exercises.

The following are exciting new programs in response to our attendees and market changes:  Six Sigma, Industrial Textile Fundamentals, and Mechanical Finishing.

To get further information about our other new and annual seminars, please go to our website, www.tx.ncsu.edu and click on the Quick Link:  Professional Education.  We are in the process of completing a CD version of our most attended course, Textile Fundamentals.  If you need further information about any of our courses or CD versions, please call Coleman Rich at 919-515-6539 or email coleman_rich@ncsu.edu.
