Hugh Shelton, College of Textiles Alumnus, Wants You to Join the Alumni Association Dear Fellow Alumni: As I rose through the ranks of the U.S. Army to become the 14th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, I learned many valuable lessons. I found that leaders are not born but are shaped by their life experiences and education as well as a desire to succeed and shoulder responsibility. Leaders give back. They share what they have learned, support those who come behind them and show others the path for success. Thats why I am anxious to give back to NC State, the university that provided me with the foundation from which I grew. I am spearheading a leadership initiative that allows me to interact with alumni, faculty and NC States best students. And, I am a member of the Alumni Association, an organization that supports the university through a committed community of NC State graduates and friends. I want you, too, to be a leader among your peers and a member of the Alumni Association. Being a member signifies that not only do you care about your alma mater but that you want to help steer its future course. You want to be counted among a strong army of alumni who will serve, defend and applaud NC State University. The university needs and deserves a strong Alumni Association. It is our duty as alumni to give it one. The Alumni Association helps support the university in its quest for leadership among peer institutions across the nation and throughout the world. No organization speaks more loudly than the Alumni Association of NC States collective accomplishments and individual alumni successes. It creates connections between alumni and their alma mater that last a lifetime and that pass from generation to generation. Show your colors red and white and become a member of the Alumni Association, Best regards and lets roll! Henry H. Shelton 63 General, U.S. Army (R) |
