Textile Engineering Society Holds End of the Year Event Textile Engineering faculty, staff, alumni, students, and parents braved a cold spring rain to attend the 2002 End of the Year event hosted by the Textile Engineering Society (TES) on Saturday, May 4th. Held annually, the event is hosted to bring all those involved in the Textile Engineering program together for a final celebration of the years activities, as well as to provide a little relief before the stressful exam period begins. Officers and members of TES also used the event to recognize out-going and new officers, as well as the senior award winners. The event, held at Kids Together Park in Cary, N.C. was emceed by graduating senior and out-going president of TES, Laura Gibson. Following a hearty meal of barbecue and banana pudding, a short program was conducted to recognize senior award winners. Andrew Sutton, out-going vice president, presented the award for Service and Commitment to Laura Gibson, and a special award of appreciation to senior TE Bobby McLean for his hard work and dedication throughout the year. Dr. Tim Clapp presented four awards offered through the College of Engineering. Winners of the College of Engineering awards were Laura Gibson for Leadership, I-Chien Liao for Scholarly Achievement, Bradley Cummins for Humanities and David Franklin for Citizenship and Service. The final award, presented by Dr. Jon Rust, was the Peter Lord Engineering Design Award. The recipient this year was graduating senior, James Reed. Following the introduction of new officers and recognition of faculty, Jeremy Freckleton (BSTE-2000) from Frontier Spinning Mills spoke as the alumni guest speaker. Freckleton provided insights on his current responsibilities as well as words of advice and encouragement for current Textile Engineering students. Despite the cold and rainy conditions, the event was well attended and ended another successful year for the Textile Engineering Society and the Textile Engineering program. |
