College of Textiles Mentoring Program by Emily Parker, Director of College Relations As a graduate of the best College of Textiles in the world, we want to reengage you into college life! No, Im sorry, that doesnt mean you reverse time and relive your college days, but it does mean that we want you to feel a part of the college and help us in a special program. Sure, many of you may come back to Raleigh to sporting events to support the Pack, but wouldnt it be great to support the College of Textiles, right from you hometown. Every year there is a new crop of Wolfpackers joining the family at the College of Textiles. These freshmen need guidance and help from faculty, peers, and advisors, but they also need mentoring from you. With help of an alumni mentoring program, a student can gain knowledge to make their life at NC State even richer. Our plan here at the college is to pair each incoming freshmen with an alumni from their county or hometown. You would make contact with this new Wolfpacker even before their freshmen orientation, to welcome them to the college! By pairing you with someone who lives close to you, it makes the responsibility easier for you and gives the freshmen someone who can relate to where they grew up. It supports the opportunity to take that freshmen to lunch before they even start at NC State and to see them when they are home on break. The following shows the outline of how the program will work. 1. Pairing of alumni with incoming freshmen will happen in May each year. 2. Alumni will contact freshmen before their freshmen orientation. 3. Call or meet twice a semester their freshmen year, especially over the holidays. 4. Help that student retain contacts in order to get summer jobs to gain experience. 5. After their freshmen year call or meet once a semester. 6. Continue throughout their years at the college to help with advice and employment. 7. Alumni would at anytime have the opportunity to have another incoming freshmen. 8. In the spring of 2004, there will be a dinner for alumni mentors and students to acknowledge their effort and the program. This dinner will be held every other year. This program is a small but important way for you to give back to athe college and in the process help students gain the most out of their college experience. It wont take that much of your time, but we guarantee it will reengage you in the university and college. Please email Emily Parker at emily_parker@ncsu.edu or call me at 919-515-6529 if you are interested in helping with this program. Please do so ASAP. The following is the information that I need from you: name, year of graduation, major, current street address, city, state and zip code, county, phone number, email address, company employed with, and title. We hope that you will join us in this program! |
