Phi Psi Continues a Winning Tradition at National Convention

by Kent Hester, Director of Student Services

Congratulations goes out to NC State’s chapter (Eta) of Phi Psi National Textile Fraternity. The fraternity returned from the national convention in Atlanta, and was the only chapter to receive awards in all three competitions held during the convention. Competitions were held in written report, archives and oral presentation.

Hosted by Theta Chapter and held on the campus of Georgia Tech, the 95th Phi Psi National Convention brought together students and faculty from eight of the nine chapters located across the eastern United States. In addition to meeting and interacting with other students from Textile schools, student participants competed in an unofficial

structural design competition icebreaker to kick-off the convention.  Other components of the convention included tours of the Georgia Tech textile facility, informative lectures on a variety of textile-related topics, including the break-through research on Smart Fabrics, and open discussions between chapters about issues facing textile students in the year  2002.  Of course, some free time was also built into the convention for students to explore Atlanta.

The honor of hosting the convention rotates between the active chapters from year to year.  The convention will be hosted by members of Mu Chapter at the Institute of Textile Technology (Charlottesville, VA) in 2003 and by the Iota Chapter at Clemson University in 2004.  NC State will host the 98th Annual Phi Psi National Convention in 2005 and all Eta Chapter Alumni are welcome and encouraged to attend.
