Guidelines for applying to the Anni Albers Scholars Program


The Anni Albers Scholars Program is a dual degree curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science in Textile Technology in the College of Textiles, and a Bachelor of Art and Design in the College of Design. All students in the program will be enrolled as majors in both Textile Technology and Art and Design.

Use the attached form to apply to the Anni Albers Scholars Program, in addition to your application to the University.

Admissions Policies
Students may apply to the program in several ways:

  1. Before becoming a freshman at NCSU: Students should apply to the University selecting Art and Design (College of Design) as first choice and Textile Technology (College of Textiles) as second choice on the NCSU admissions application form. At the same time, applicants should apply to the Albers Program using the online application form. Applicants must follow the usual College of Design admissions process, which involves coming to campus for an interview and a portfolio review. Applicants will be notified of the time and date for the admissions interview. Please note admissions deadline in the College of Design is December 1. If the applicant is admitted to the Albers Program, notification will be sent separately from the admission to the University and/or the College. If the applicant is admitted to the Albers program, the second major will be added to the curriculum after the student has accepted enrollment in the University.
  2. After enrollment in the College of Design: Students wishing to apply to the program during the first year of coursework in the College of Design will elect to major in Art and Design, and make application to the College of Textiles (Textile Technology major), and to the Albers Program, by March 1. Albers program applications may be completed using the using the online application form.
  3. After enrollment in the College of Textiles: Students wishing to apply to the program during their first semester in the College of Textiles should contact the College of Design (Art and Design major) for admissions procedures no later than mid-October of the first year, to meet the December 1 application deadline. Applicants must follow the usual College of Design admissions process, which involves interview and portfolio review. Simultaneous application to the Albers Program using the online application form.is required.
  4. From the NCSU First Year College: Students wishing to apply to the program during their first semester in the First Year College should contact the College of Design (Art and Design) and the College of Textiles (Textile Technology) for admissions procedures no later than mid-October to meet all application deadlines. Applicants must follow the usual College of Design admission process, which involves portfolio review. Application should also be made to the Albers program using the online application form. An analysis of applicable credits from the First Year College will be necessary to assess the amount of time needed to complete the program.
  5. As a sophomore, junior or senior at NCSU: Students wishing to apply to the program after one or more years in either Art and Design (College of Design) or Textile Technology (College of Textiles) should consult with one or both of the Program advisors on the requirements necessary to complete the program. Applicants must follow the usual College of Design admissions process, which involves interview and portfolio review. Please note admissions deadline of December 1 in the College of Design. Application should also be made to the Albers program using the online application form. An analysis of applicable credits from work already completed at NCSU will be necessary to assess the amount of time needed to complete the program.
  6. Transfer to NCSU from another institution: Students wishing to apply to the program as a transfer student from another University should simultaneously apply to the University, selecting Art and Design (College of Design) and Textile Technology (College of Textiles) as first and second choices, and the Albers Program. Applicants should contact the College of Design for admissions procedures no later than the end of September to meet application deadlines for admission for the following fall. Applicants must follow the usual College of Design admissions process, which involves portfolio review. Please note the December 1 admissions deadline in the College of Design. Application should be made to the Albers program Application should also be made to the Albers program using the online application form. An analysis of transferable credits from the initial institution(s) will be necessary to assess the amount of time needed to complete the program.

Qualifications:

  1. Admitted to the College of Design.
  2. Admitted to the College of Textiles.
  3. Admission to the program requires a grade point average of 3.0 or better for existing NCSU or transfer students, or 3.2 for high school students.
  4. To remain in the Anni Albers Scholars Program students must maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 2.8.

Application Procedure:

Complete and submit the online application form including a clearly worded essay describing why you want to pursue the Anni Albers Scholars program. You may cut and paste your College of Design application essay if you feel it appropriately addresses this topic.
