Student Research & Awards

Ravi Shankar, a doctoral student pursuing dual PhD in Fiber and Polymer Science and Materials Science and Engineering, won First place for excellence in polymer science and engineering at American Chemical Society North Carolina Polymer Discussion Group annual Richard D. Gilbert Award Symposium for Students in Polymer Science held on March 1, 2007. The title of his talk was “Ultrahigh Actuation Strain of Novel Nanostructured Polymer Systems.” Ravi is advised by Drs. Tushar K Ghosh and Richard J. Spontak.

The main purpose of this symposium is to honor Professor Richard D. Gilbert, who was a leading teacher and researcher in polymer science in North Carolina. Students also gain experience in presenting their research results.

Ravi Shankar, a doctoral student pursuing dual PhD in Fiber and Polymer Science and Materials Science and Engineering, was awarded ‘Best Overall Poster Award’ at 15th Annual National Textile Center Forum in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina on February 26, 2007. The topic of his presentation was “Single-Step Surface Modification of Electrospun Fibers.” Ravi is advised by Drs. Tushar K Ghosh and Richard J. Spontak.

Ravi Shankar, a doctoral student pursuing dual PhD in Fiber and Polymer Science and Materials Science and Engineering, won ‘Outstanding poster award’ at NC State University College of Textiles 5th Annual Research Open House in 2007. Ravi is advised by Drs. Tushar K Ghosh and Richard J. Spontak.
