Textile Extension Labs
The College
of Textiles (COT) at North Carolina State University is housed
in a $45 million, 300,000 square foot research
and teaching facility on the 1,000 acre Centennial Campus.
The building contains a state-of-the-art Model
Manufacturing Facility (MMF), consisting of individual laboratories that
are capable of all manufacturing operations from spinning fibers
to producing the end product. The MMF is the heart of the Applied
Research Program for the College of Textiles as well as being
an integral part of the education and basic research programs.
The Applied Research Program bridges the gap between the traditional
education, research and extension activities of the university
and the Fiber->Textile-Apparel industrial complex.
Its objectives include the following:
• Strengthen existing COT/Industry partnerships
• Develop new research partners
• Transfer nonproprietary research findings to industry
• Integrate Applied Research results and current industry practices
into the undergraduate and graduate programs at the College
of Textiles
• Fully utilize the MMF in the areas of education, research and
industry-sponsored applied research projects.
KEY ISSUES
• Confidentiality
- it is possible to conduct confidential projects with special
arrangements
• Cost - each project's cost is determined on an individual
basis; estimates can be obtained in 24 hours or less.
• Timing - each cost estimate will also include the estimated
starting and completion dates agreed upon by both parties as
well as a list of the deliverables for the sponsor.
