Mission Statement
To develop a long-term strategic program at NCSU to promote research, education, extension, and public service in multidisciplinary areas pertaining to transportation systems, including vehicles and infrastructure, in support of major university thrust areas including economic development, environmental stewardship and sustainable community development, and education excellence.
The NCSU Automotive and Transportation Planning Group, a multidisciplinary team of NCSU faculty and staff from departments in the Colleges of Engineering and Textiles, as well as the Solar Center and ITRE, has identified existing, ongoing activities in related areas

Baja SAE consists of three regional competitions
that simulate real-world engineering design
projects.
Engineering students are tasked
to design and build an off-road vehicle that will
sustain severe punishment of rough terrain and
sometimes even water.
All vehicles are powered by a ten-horsepower
Intek Model 20 engine donated by Briggs &
Stratton.
Baja SAE is part of the Collegiate Design Series
which is run by SAE International.
