The following are some of the TATM Graduate Students
currently enrolled in Masters and Doctoral Programs

Cuneyt Altinoz received his BS in Industrial Engineering from NCSU. He continued to Georgia Tech for an MBA and back to NCSU for a PHD in Textile Technology and Management. He has also worked for IBM and CIBA Vision in the operations management area. His current research is centered around using fuzzy constraint based decision systems to support business processes. Other interests include supply chain management, performance measurement and decision making processes in general. - Strategic Selection Systems Erin Dodd graduated magna cum laude in Textile Management and International Studies, December 1998. Erin continued her graduate program (MS) in Textile Technology Management, at NCSU. Her master's thesis focused on U.S. trends in short staple spinning. Currently she is a doctoral student in TATM. Her dissertation research is focused on niche marketing and globalization. Erin's research interests are in the areas of international trade and marketing. - Future Trends in Short Staple Spinning
Su-Jeong Hwang is currently enrolled in the TATM Ph.D program. Prior to studying at NCSU, she earned an A.A.S. degree (cum laude) in Textile Development & Marketing from F.I.T. in New York and also majored in MIS at Computer Science department at Northeastern University, Boston. Su-Jeong was a research assistant at Sungshin Women's University 1992-1994 in Seoul, Korea, where she completed her undergraduate degree. Her research interests include apparel automation systems, CAD, 3D body scanning systems, pattern construction, database, and apparel management information system. - Principles of 3D Body Scanning Systems Yatin S. Karpe is a native of Bombay, India. Yatin holds a degree in textile engineering from the University of Bombay, Department of Textile Engineering. He worked for two textile companies (Raymond Woollen Mills, Reliance Industries Ltd.) in India. Yatin then earned his MS in textile management from the University of Georgia and his thesis focused on the global competitiveness of the Indian cotton textile industry. He is pursuing his Ph.D. in textile technology management at NCSU with research in the area of Information Engineering (an NTC project), the research focuses on enhancing and improving the decision-making process in the textile industry. Yatin has several publications and presentations and has worked on projects with APICS and ATMI (The Quick Response Collection). - Information Engineering
Amy Konopka received her Bachelor's degree in 1999 in Textile Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Ms. Konopka has been working as a research assistant with NCRC (Nonwovens Cooperative Reearch Center). Her research has focused on the liquid movements in nonwovens. She is also involved in an independent project that utilizes fluent in order to determine shear properties at a mixing tank wall. Ms. Konopka intends to work in the field of nonwovens in research and development of new materials or processes.

Eun-Kyung (Eunice) Lee received her B.S. degree in Clothing and Textiles in 1993 from Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea. Upon graduation, she worked at Galleria Department Stores of Hanwha Corporation as an assistant manager in women's apparel for three years. In January 1996, she enrolled in NCSU Textile & Apparel Technology & Management program and received her M.S. degree in August 1997. Eunice completed her doctoral study in Textile Technology Management in August 2001. Her doctoral dissertation was "Creation of Casual Index based on Habit Stocks and General Social Behaviors."
Lashawnda McKimmon is a TATM doctoral student and her research interests include body scanning, digital printing, and mass customization. Research conducted includes evaluation of current sizing systems, the accuracy of 3D body scanning systems and protocol for scanning positioning, and research on the apparel firm of the future. She is a member of the Textile Institute (TI) and the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA). - Digital Printing in the Textile Complex In 1990 Lisa Parrillo Chapman received a B.F.A in fibers from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia PA. While working as a buyer and a manager of a home specialty store she completed a Master of Textiles from North Carolina State University, College of Textiles. Continuing at the College of Textiles, Lisa is working toward her doctoral degree in textile technology and management and is employed as an instructor of computer aided design for textiles and as director of the College's Digital Design Center. Current research interests are in emerging technologies in digital design, particularly ink jet printing. - Teaching product Development with off the shelf software
Muditha M. Senanayake graduated from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, in 1994 with a BS in Textile & Clothing Technology (First Class Honors). He has worked for 5 years in the apparel industry and on the faculty as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Textiles, University of Moratuwa. Muditha obtained a Master of Textiles degree in 2001 from the Department of TATM, North Carolina State University. Currently he is in the Ph.D. program in Textile Technology Management. His research interests are modeling and analysis of apparel ordering and manufacturing for optimum apparel replenishment, measures and technology for apparel new product development to satisfy consumer demand, and advanced apparel business practices for apparel supply chain. - "Measures" for New Product Development Karla Simmons is a Ph.D. student in textile and apparel management. She received a bachelor's degree in textile management with a minor in apparel production and a master's degree in apparel production from Auburn University. She has worked in production at Oneita Industries and as an instructor at Central Alabama Community College. At NC State, her activities include the Preparing the Professoriate Program, teaching the Apparel Production I class (TAM315) for two semesters, and being chosen as the NC State representative for the Student Public Speaking Competition for the National Textile Center Annual Forum. She is a member of the International Textile Apparel Association, the Textile Institute, ASTM. Her dissertation topic is in the area of 3-D body scanning technology.
Sedef Uncu earned her Bsc degree in 1998 followed by an MBA (Bogazici University) and an MSc in textile engineering at Istanbul Technical University in 2000. Sedef also worked for two years (1998-2000) as an expert at Textile Consulting Services Inc. Sedef Uncu is a doctoral student and a research assistant in Textile and Apparel Technology and Management at NC State University. Her research interests include strategic planning, information flow design, decision support systems, E-commerce, market entry strategies and restructuring of companies. - Information Engineering Gregory A. Grissett is currently working towards his Master of Science in Textile Technology under the direction of Dr. Behnam Pourdeyhimi. He is conducting his research on three-dimensional structures molded from nonwoven substrates. Specifically, the work is aimed at determining what processing conditions in nonwoven manufacture favor stable three-dimensional structures in terms of compressive properties. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the College of Textiles at North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Textile Technology in December of 2000. His senior design project studied the bio-degradation of molded spunbond fabrics comprised of polylactic acid (PLA). - Three Dimensional Structures from Nonwovens
Balachandar Jagannathan (Bala) received an undergraduate degree (B.Tech-Textile Technology) in PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, Manchester of South India. He is a M.S. student working in computer applications in textiles, e-commerce, web designing, Database management and Server-side progamming. Bala worked for one year in Penguin Engineers. Bala is the graduated student assisting with the e-journal JTATM. His work includes update of the e-journal for every issue, managing the subscriber database of the journal, and Web metrics. He has also published an article on Tencel fiber in Textile Association of India, December 1999 issue. - Special Issue JTATM
