Summer 2004 Internship: Gold Toe Brands

Cheryl Soule, Senior, Textile and Apparel Management

I had a wonderful experience working for Gold Toe Brands, Inc. in Burlington, North Carolina. During the first week of my internship, I met with key people in practically all stages of the production process—from receiving yarns though shipping finished socks from the distribution center. My summer projects exposed me to product development, sourcing, merchandising, and production planning. As a result, I was able to gain an understanding of the issues and challenges these areas face, especially when importing from Latin America and the Pacific Rim.

Some of my assignments included developing a comprehensive report with proposed standardization of trouser sock lines, engaging in competitive shopping, conducting lab tests and analysis for product comparisons, and gathering supply chain information for the company’s Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism application. Not only did this internship make my classroom experiences at NCSU more meaningful, but it also gave me a better sense of jobs I would like to pursue after graduation.
