International Programs in the
Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management Department
NCSU - College of Textiles

The goal of the Global Supply Chain Management Fellows program is to educate students at the master’s level on the design and management of global textile supply chains. This program is a joint offering among Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU), Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Industries Textiles (ENSAIT), and North Carolina State University (NCSU).

Global Scholars Program

Today’s Textiles and Apparel Complex is truly global in every aspect of its business. About 20 % of the entire world trade is in textiles and apparel. There are no more "domestic" markets or industries. Managers and marketers for this industry must be able to deal in a global environment. They have to be capable of managing and coordinating resources for textile products worldwide, as well as marketing their products in overseas markets.

The Global Textile Scholars Program (formerly the Eli Whitney Scholars program) addresses this need for graduates with global vision, managerial and technological knowledge, and language and communication skills. Students majoring in Textile and Apparel Management can apply for the Global Textile Scholars Program.

An essential part of the Global Textile Scholars curriculum is the international experience in the region of the language concentration. This internship allows the student to apply the acquired skills in an industrial setting abroad. The theoretical concepts of international management and culture studies are thus filled with real life experiences.

Transatlantic Textile Network

The Transatlantic Textile Network is a cooperative effort between three US and three European textile universities: NC State, Philadelphia University, and University of Massachusetts in the United States and ENSAIT in Roubaix, RWTH Aachen, and UPC Barcelona in Europe.

The purpose of this transatlantic textile network is to facilitate the exchange of students between schools, to cooperate on curriculum, to facilitate international internships and to create the possibility of virtual student exchanges where students will work on joint projects in both continents. The Transatlantic Textile Network has been made possible by the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) of the US Department of Education, and the European Commission. At this time the first students are traveling abroad with this project and the framework for the Distance Collaboration has been set in place.
