Textile and Apparel Business Intelligence Consortium (TABIC)

New Report Analyzes the Transformation Process in the US Textile and Apparel Industries

The US textile and apparel industries have experienced a transformation of a historic proportion over the last 20 years, according to a new report published by The Textile and Apparel Business Intelligence Consortium (TABIC) at NC State College of Textiles. The report, by Peter Kilduff and Carl Priestland is entitled "Strategic Transformation in the US Textile and Apparel Industries: A study of Business Dynamics with Forecasts up to 2010". The report provides a strategic perspective on the dynamic forces reshaping the US textile and apparel industries and the markets in which they operate.

The 140-page report indicates that global economic integration, technological change, shifting market requirements and intense international competition could bring about even more far-reaching changes over the next 20 years. The report includes a review of economic and consumer dynamics in the US, developments in US textile and apparel retailing, the impact of technological change and the dynamics of global competition. The adjustment strategies and position of the US fiber, textile and apparel companies are analyzed, and strategic development priorities for the industries are identified. The report is based on extensive research, including interviews with many industry leaders. The work was sponsored by the North Carolina Textile Foundation. Further information about the report, including the Table of Contents and details of how to obtain a copy, is available at TABIC.

TABIC is currently working on a study to investigate the impact of trade liberalization in textiles and apparel up to and beyond 2005. The study is examining the process and pattern of trade liberalization and its impact on consumption, output, trade and competition. The study will help companies evaluate strategic alternatives in the rapidly changing trade environment after quotas are removed.
