Fiber
Society - Spring Meeting
New Frontiers
in Fiber Science
May 23-25, 2001
Message from the Fiber Society (FS)
On behalf of the Fiber Society, let
me begin by thanking the Managing Editor of JTATM, Professor Nancy
Casill and her colleagues at the College of Textiles, North Carolina
State University, for extending the courtesy of publishing a special
edition of JTATM containing Abstracts of Papers to be presented
at the Spring Meeting of the Society
(FS). The meeting will be held in Raleigh, NC, May 23-25, 2001.
It is my hope that this is the beginning of a mutually beneficial
partnership between the two groups and will manifest in other ways
in the future. Stay tuned.
Next, the FS continues to serve it
members, and the community at large, by organizing research conferences
with high quality content. The content continues to change reflecting
the evolution of research interests of the FS members, as well as
other like-minded people who attend these meetings. The FS seeks
out these evolutionary changes through its active members who volunteer
to organize the Conference program and reach out into the global
community to obtain paper and poster contributions. In this spirit,
Professor Behnam Pourdeyhimi and Dr. Phillip
Gibson are to be complimented for the excellent program
they have put together for the May meeting. Its theme "New Frontiers
in Fiber-Based Products" is supported by nearly 30 papers and several
posters.
I invite the reader to look through
the abstracts that follow. I hope the reading will encourage you
to join us in Raleigh on May 23.
A SPECIAL NOTE
TO GRADUATE STUDENTS:
The Fiber Society invites and offers
complimentary registration to graduate students to attend its meetings,
provided they are currently registered at a university in an area
supportive of fiber science and its applications. Endorsement by
their advisors, as well as formal registration, is highly recommended.
See you in Raleigh NC.
