As
Seniors in the NCSU College of Textiles, we attended the 10th Annual
National Textile Center (NTC) forum in Charlotte, North Carolina,
February 10-12, 2002. The National Textile Center (NTC) is a research
consortium of six universities: Auburn University, Clemson University,
Georgia Institute of Technology, North Carolina State University,
UMass - Dartmouth, Cornell University and Philadelphia University.
The institutions share human resources, equipment and facilities.
Serving the USA Fiber/Textile/Fabricated Products/Retail Complex,
the NTC vision, mission and goals are realized through innovative
research and links to other institutions.
Scientific excellence awards were presented to to
several NCSU faculty including, Dr. Russell E. King for Emerging
Apparel Supply Chain Configurations. The subjects covered by the
poster session included chemical processes, fabrication, integrated
enterprise systems and material science. In addition, featured guest
speaker were Dr. Randy Lewis, Professor of Microbiology (University
of Wyoming and Director of Wyoming NSF EPSCorR), Dr. Garrison Cottrell,
Professor at the University of California-San Diego, Dr. Chris Gorman,
Associate Professor in Organic Chemistry (North Carolina State University),
and Dr. Mary Lynn Damhorst, Associate Professor in Textiles and
Clothing (Iowa State University).
This was a rewarding experience, as it allowed us
to interface with university faculty, industry personnel, and bring
back to the classroom new knowledge of textile research and development.
