Committee
for Textile Competitiveness
NC Commerce
Update
September 24, 2002
NC Commerce Secretary Jim Fain initiated about fifteen industry-
or regional-based enterprise teams in order to proactively recruit
business to North Carolina. The Committee for Textile Competitiveness
was created from the textile enterprise team and is a public/private
collaboration to enhance North Carolina textile/apparel global competitiveness.
With the evaporation
of quotas by 2005 and the need to retain textile and apparel jobs
in North Carolina, the committee is working with industry to reshape
the future of the industry. For the committee, the industry definition
includes all sectors related to textiles. Committee members are
from government, universities and community colleges, non-profits,
and industry and include representatives from the following:
- NC Commerce
- Small Business
& Technology Development Center
- NCSU's College
of Textiles
- NC Center
for Applied Textile Technology
- Economic
& Workforce Development, NC Community College System
- UNC Greensboro
- Hosiery
Technology Center of North Carolina
- Textile/Clothing
Technology Corporation
The committee's
first product was a service directory called the "North Carolina
Textile and Apparel Resource Guide." It provides a listing
of available services provided to industry by committee members
and other non-profits. Hard copies may be requested by contacting
