On April 23, 2003, the Colleges of Textiles and Design and the Anni Albers Scholars Program hosted a spring fashion show of student work. The Lower Courtyard below Kamphoefner Hall was filled with soft luminaries and evocative music for the occasion. The hedge of blooming azaleas provided a complimentary backdrop to the students’ designs. Special seating was reserved for parents and friends who became instant paparazzi as the excitement of the evening surged. The spotlights cast a soft pink glow on the models with a definite “attitude” for the runway. (Note: captions indicate the designer)

Thirteen student designers created collections ranging from three to twenty ensembles each worn by fellow students and friends of the designers. The clothing featured interesting and innovative techniques including embroidery, screen printing, felting, beading, knitting, deconstruction and reconstruction of clothing, and other creative processes.

The event was a student initiated, organized and supported effort. Amy Fremin, who spearheaded the initiative, commented to the designers after the show:

“Thank you for all your hard work on the show and on your garments, they all were incredible! The Deans said the show was a definite success. We will fill out "surveys" for possible improvements for next year.”

Participants gained experience as designers, models, production staff and show managers, culminating in an educational and entertaining production. Designers and models mingled with the audience at a reception held after the show.
