NCSU Libraries Receive ITT Library Donation
The
Burlington Textiles Library, located in the NCSU College of Textiles,
received a major donation of library books this year, as a result of
the merger between the NCSU College of Textiles
and the Institute of Textile Technology NCSU
(ITT). ITT,
formerly located in Charlottesville Virginia, had a library of approximately
40,000 volumes, about equal in size to the After the merger, librarians in both institutions immediately began planning and coordinating the donation which consists of approximately 8000 volumes. Some portions of the library’s holdings were accepted by NCSU in their entirety; among these were a collection of fabric swatches and an extensive set of files on textile vendors. The remaining portion of the library (and the majority of it) had to be reviewed item by item. Fortunately, most of the ITT Library collection was cataloged and thus reports could be created and reviewed by librarians at NCSU. In the end, about 400 boxes were shipped to NCSU in early July. The boxes are currently being held in a temporary storage site on campus and will be processed by the Libraries in stages over the coming year. The portions of the ITT library collection that the NCSU Libraries did not take will be given to the libraries of other colleges and universities around the country. The NCSU Burlington textiles Library is truly a "world class" library for use by the academic and industry communities. |
