In a decade where team work atmosphere is much appreciated and emphasized, the Textile Association of Graduate Students (TAGS) at the College of Textiles in North Carolina State University provides the perfect environment to develop team work and leadership qualities in all Textile graduate students. The Textile Association of Graduate Students (TAGS) is the official graduate student body at the College of Textiles at North Carolina State University. It was established to provide the graduate students with a platform to socialize, share, debate and network with fellow graduate students. It further seeks to guide and familiarize all newly enrolled graduate students with the College and graduate study procedures and guidelines. Another responsibility of TAGS is to act as a liaison between the graduate school administrators, professors and other organizations of interest and the student. TAGS also serves as the microphone to voice concerns about the College or any other aspect of College life through the UGSA (University Graduate Students Association).

TAGS is one of the many student associations at NC State University, and has the most diverse group of graduate students with different cultures and backgrounds. This diversity itself has been the reason for its recent success in organizing cultural and academic events in the College. Since last year, TAGS has been very active in organizing its events and adding more events to its list of annual events.

"Industry Day"

TAGS was able to successfully organize a poster competition for the first annual industry day Spring 2003. The aim of this event was to provide graduate students an opportunity to present their research work to faculty and industry representatives and also to provide the environment to network with the industry. A total of 52 posters (Click here for a sample of TAGS posters) were presented by graduate students in the areas of Textile Design, Management, Technology, Engineering and Sciences.

"Website"

TAGS students are proud of their new and developed website (www.tx.ncsu.edu/tags). This website resulted from the work initiated by the previous council and implemented by the present council. A new logo was established this semester and it will be used as a symbol to represent TAGS in all its activities.

"Organizational Structure"

The introduction of subcommittees in the TAGS hierarchy in order to distribute the responsibilities, improve the organizing capabilities and team work among its members has brought much success to TAGS in recent years. It is needless to say that success of TAGS is backed by much appreciated guidance of faculty advisor Dr.William Oxenham and the rest of the faculty members. With the new council and addition of new members this year, TAGS is looking forward to further strengthen its capabilities and introduce activities, which will help textile graduate students to improve their interaction skills and achieve academic excellence in the diverse world of textiles.
