The North Carolina Textile Foundation The North Carolina Textile Foundation (NCTF) is managed by a board of directors, with an executive committee composed of the officers and selected members of the board of directors. One of the most important forms of support provided for the College of Textiles by the Foundation is the Scholarship Program. Established by the board of directors in 1980, the program has four components: the new North Carolina Textile Foundation Centennial Scholars Program, the NCTF Scholarships, the North Carolina Textile Foundation Prestige Scholarships, and the North Carolina Textile Foundation Merit Graduate Fellowship Program.
Introduced by the NCTF in 1999 as a part of the College of Textiles' Centennial Celebration, Centennial Scholarships carry the greatest value among all scholarships at the College of Textiles. Furthermore, the Centennial Scholarship is among the highest valued scholarships offered at North Carolina State University. Approximately ten $47,500 Centennial Scholarships will be awarded to the top applicants each year and will be based upon demonstrated high academic achievement throughout high school with proven and potential leadership qualities, extracurricular activities and unique life experiences. Students can be nominated by their high school for this award, or students may self-nominate if they feel they are strong candidates based on the criteria above. This is a scholarship covering approximately 95% of the costs to attend NC State and is designed to cover tuition and fees, on-campus housing (or a stipend for an equal amount), and a meal plan (or predetermined allowance). Any remaining funds can be used as a stipend for books and personal expenses (for up to eight semesters). In addition, each Centennial Scholar will have access to a $7,500 enrichment fund that will allow him/her to participate in a variety of leadership, language immersion and international studies programs, career exploration trips, attend international textile shows and benefit from other approved enrichment opportunities. Centennial Scholars will also join other student scholars in a unique honors class offered during the freshman year.
Each academic year, the College of Textiles will solicit every North Carolina high school, and selected out of state high schools for applicant nominations. Every high school and home school can nominate up to two candidates for the Centennial Scholars Program. All high school nominations are due to the College of Textiles by November 1st. Applications and full instructions will be mailed to every nominee. Also, until the end of November, any student who feels he/she meets or exceeds the selection criteria may nominate themselves by writing or e-mailing the College of Textiles to request an application. Self-nominees may also choose to simply go online and complete an application. Telephone calls will not constitute a self-nomination. There is no limit to the number of self-nominees coming from any one high school or home school. All completed Centennial Scholarship applications are physically due (not postmarked) to the College of Textiles by 5:00 pm on December 1st. Participants in the College's Summer Textile Exploration Program (STEP) are automatically nominated for this scholarship. Following an exhaustive selection process, finalists will be notified
and invited to attend the Centennial Scholars weekend and interviews (scheduled
for January 23-24, 2004). The top ranked candidates from the interview
process will be offered Centennial Scholarships. The next highest ranked
candidates will be offered NCTF Scholarships, and the next highest, NCTF
Prestige Scholarships. |
