Journal of Textile and Apparel Technology and
Management
Forthcoming Issue on
“ The Virtual and Digital World
of Textiles and Apparel”
Virtual and digital technologies have dramatically
transformed the way that the textile and apparel
industry approaches product design, development,
and business. Virtual technologies support almost
instantaneous visual communication among divisions
of a company and suppliers and their customers.
Digital technologies also support mass customization
and e-commerce efforts targeted to the ultimate
consumer. Building on these new technologies,
textile and apparel industry firms are adopting
innovative strategies for meeting the needs of
their customers with increased emphasis on both
the design and development of new innovative
textile products and services, and innovative
processes and methods.
The forthcoming issue of the
Journal of Textile and Apparel,
Technology and Management (JTATM;
targeted launch June 1, 2004) will focus on “The
Virtual and Digital World of Textiles and Apparel.” This
issue of JTATM will provide a collection of articles
on new textile and apparel products, including
product research as well as process information
(product design, product development), visualization,
and communication. These articles will bring
together the current thrusts of academic and
industry inquiry to provide information for future
product and service needs and directions.
Manuscripts, conceptual and empirical, which
broaden and deepen understanding of new textile
and apparel product development, visualization,
and communication are invited. Papers that significantly
contribute to the development of new directions
in textiles and apparel by emphasizing managerial
implications and/or highlighting avenues of future
research are also welcome.
Possible topics may include, but are not limited
to:
· Digital technologies supporting diverse end
uses for fiber, woven and knitted structures
· Digital technologies for integration of processes
(concept to consumer)
· Three dimensional imaging, including body scanning,
fabric draping, virtual modeling, and design
in 3-D
· Textile and apparel product concept research
· New digital textile product opportunities (including
medical, nonwovens, furniture, apparel)
· Impact of virtual/digital technologies on the
supply chain
· Three-dimensional scanner systems
· Three-dimensional digitization process of scanning
· Color issues, including concept, color development,
technologies, color history, market feasibility,
calibration, visualization
· Consumer preferences and/or the decision process
for products and services.
Authors are encouraged to discuss paper ideas
with Dr. Cynthia Istook as well as members of
the JTATM Managing Editorial Board. Manuscripts
should conform to the guidelines of the JTATM
(http://www.tx.ncsu.edu/jtatm). Papers should
be submitted on or before April 15, 2004 to:
