Automotive designers develop opportunities to enhance the design intent throughout the vehicle. Recognizing the advantageous synergy in an integrated product design, JTATM offers another illustration of the NCSU expertise in design related to transportation.

Resource Alliance Competition Winner

Assistant Professor Bong Il Jin came to the College of Design at NCSU in 2000 to teach industrial design with an extensive background in teaching and professional practice in automotive design.

Jin developed production and concept cars at Kia Motor Company. In 1997, he earned his Master of Fine Arts in Product Design at Hong-Il University in Seoul. Sponsored by his employer to spend a year earning a Special Certificate in Transportation Design at the respected Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, Jin continued his work as Chief Designer at Daewoo Motors in Korea.

The Student and Instructor Award was won by Ernest Spangler and Jin in the 2002 Marine Design Resource Alliance Competition featured at the Miami boat show for a new style of jet ski.

His expertise in creative automotive design is reflected in the high caliber of his College of Design students’ designs. His student works have been exhibited at International Auto Expo 2001-2002 consecutively.
