Journal of Textile and Apparel Technology and Management
Forthcoming Issue on
“Interface: Apparel, Materials, and Technology”

The textile and apparel industry has been dramatically transformed in recent years by advanced materials applications, new technologies, increased emphasis on functional design, and changing market needs. In this climate of continuous change and increasing competition, all sectors of the textile supply chain (fiber, machinery, yarn, manufacture, retailers, importers) are striving to meet the needs of their customers with an increased emphasis on the design and development of textile products with innovative aesthetic, fit, and function characteristics. In addition, technologies support almost instantaneous visual communication among divisions of a company and suppliers and their customers, as well as support a “seamless” supply chain from concept to consumer.

The forthcoming issue of the Journal of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management (JTATM; targeted launch March, 2005) will focus on “Interface: Apparel, Materials, and Technology.” This issue of JTATM will provide a collection of articles that bring together the current thrusts of academic and industry inquiry to provide information for future business needs and directions.

Manuscripts, conceptual and empirical, which broaden and deepen understanding of interfaces between any of the elements of apparel, materials, and technology, particularly with a focus on future implications for industry and the consumer related to aesthetics, fit, and function, are invited. Papers which address research and development of new technologies and process strategies, design and new product development, marketplace dynamics, and implications for industry in the future are of special interest. Papers that significantly contribute to the development of new textile business strategies by emphasizing product development and managerial implications and/or highlighting avenues of future research are also welcome.

Possible topics may include, but are not limited to:

· Digital printing and design
· Commercial applications of body scan technology
· Functional materials, design, and production
· Wearable computing
· Integration of material properties and apparel design
· Creative new product development in textiles (with end uses in apparel, home textiles, industrial/technical textiles, transportation, and nonwovens).

Authors are encouraged to discuss paper ideas with Professor Nancy Cassill as well as other members of the JTATM Managing Editorial Board. Manuscripts should conform to the guidelines of the JTATM (http://www.tx.ncsu.edu/jtatm). Papers should be submitted on or before January 15, 2005 to:
