“ART TO WEAR”: STUDENTS’ 2004 SPRING DESIGN EVENT

On April 29, 2004, the College of Textiles and the College of Design sponsored "Collection: Art to Wear" in the Lower Courtyard at Kamphoefner Hall, NCSU campus. The event is hosted by the Anni Albers Scholars Program

Those familiar with this annual display of young designers’ colorful and expressive work know to expect the unexpected. This year was no exception. This popular student production has evolved over the past three years to become a unique event which not only reflects students’ imaginative approach to apparel, but provides a challenge in organizing during the Spring semester. Bliss Coleman, Anni Albers Senior designer and Technical Director of the Show commented: “The show is completely student produced...organized and all work done by students. The students make it happen and with out them there would be no show. It is a great chance for expression allowing students to show their work.”

Vita Plume, College of Design, Scholar, was the Faculty Advisor. Hollin Norwood, Anni Albers Scholar, was the Director and Host for the event and Brannan Hackney, a graduating Anni Albers Senior, managed behind the scenes responsibilities. The 2004 showcase of 14 student designers’ work emphasized individual creativity and brought both the visual and performing arts to the runway. The enthusiastic audience included faculty, students, family and friends of the designers and models.

Designers presenting work in Collection included: Kristin Broeils, Lisa Murden, Jessica Cooper, Carmen Lilly, Ashley Newsome, Jaeson Pitt, Julia Rice, Breigh Stanfield, Jennifer Van Orden, Bliss Coleman, Carrie Cornelius, Kilara Little, Megan Scronce, Ryan Wayne, and Hollin Norwood.
