April Wilson, Assistant Coordinator of Diversity Programs, Academic Programs The African American Textile Society at NC State College of Texiles hosted
its annual fashion show on April 22, 2005. This year the organization showcased
five student designers: Daisy Buitrago, Elicia Riley, Dale Earmo, Carolina
Wang, Senadzi Kafui Kpeglo, and Dierdra Nance.
This year the show took on a different focus, the organization wanted to make sure that the designer’s were highlighted just as much as their designs. Short bios were read about each designer, and at the end of the show the designers walked the stage with their models to be recognized by the audience.
This year the show had a special addition to its line-up which included student designs that were made strictly from non-woven materials. Usually, when we think of non-woven apparel the most exciting item we can imagine is a surgical gown! But, a few of our apparel management students showed us differently. These students took the non-woven fabrics and created fun fashion. This project was overseen by Dr. Cindy Istook and the staff of the apparel lab at the college.
