Executive-in-Residence Program
Textile and Apparel Management Program

The Executive-in-Residence program, with a generous donation from Omnova Solutions, was launched Spring 2005. Three executives participated in the program, and students and faculty were able to learn global business strategies and current textile information and expertise – a necessity for competing in today’s (and tomorrow’s) global marketplace!

James C. Leonard III, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) of the United States’ Department of Commerce (OTEXA), visited the College February 2005. Jim provided an update on current trade legislation and the global landscape for the textile and apparel industries.

James Leonard and Dr. Robert Barnhardt

Dr. Fred H. Gallasch Jr., a longtime General Motors executive, shared experiences in new product development, marketing, and leadership with students and faculty. Fred’s involvement with the Chevrolet Corvette was of particular interest to the students, and during his presentation to the graduate students was able to share some of the strategic decisions required for executives in the transportation industry.

Mr. Brad Beal, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing and Operations for Jockey International, visited the College March 30-31, 2005. Brad talked with several classes about his vast responsibilities at Jockey in manufacturing, sourcing, global supply chain, planning, product development, distribution, research and development, quality, planning, customer service, engineering and product testing.

The Executive-in-Residence program is providing NCSU College of Textiles’ students and faculty with cutting-edge information, creative problem-solving strategies, as well as providing direct contact with the industry’s leaders! This support from Omnova Solutions is truly providing a dynamic program to better prepare our students for leadership positions in the global industry!
