Third Annual Industry Open House hosted by the Textile Association of Graduate Students and the College of Textiles On April 7, 2005, the Textile Association of Graduate Students (TAGS) and the College of Textiles hosted the Third Annual Industry Open House. As part of this event, leaders from throughout the textile and apparel industry were invited to NC State’s Centennial Campus to interact with faculty, graduate students, and other industry professionals. The Open House provided an opportunity for attendees to learn about some of the research efforts at the college that could revolutionize and improve the textile and apparel industry in the future. Industry attendees were treated to college and laboratory tours, where they gained first hand experience of the technology behind the research, in addition to round table lunch discussions on a variety of leading topics such as nonwovens, nanotechnology, and medical textiles. Another important part of the Open House was the Graduate Student Poster Session, organized entirely by TAGS. This year, forty nine graduate students presented their research in four separate categories: Apparel Design and Management, Textile Chemistry, Textile Engineering, and Textile Technology. This session gave graduate students the opportunity to present their research and exchange ideas with industry leaders interested in a wide range of design, management, science, and engineering issues. Student posters and presentations were judged by representatives from the industry according to presentation skills, poster content, format, and aesthetics. Based on these criteria, the top two posters in each of the four categories were given awards. The award winners this year and their research topics were as follows: Apparel Design and Management Textile Chemistry Textile Engineering Textile Technology Due to the continued success of this event, TAGS is looking forward to
hosting the Fourth Annual Industry Open House next year and cordially invite
any person interested in attending to contact Kate Ryan (kate_ryan@ncsu.edu)
