Announcement
The
Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management
is searching for faculty expertise to strengthen and
expand its programs in Product Design and Development.
The
College of Textiles at North Carolina State University
is a modern facility housing state of the art research
and prototyping labs. New labs and facilities continue
to be added such as nonwovens, digital design, body scanning,
digital printing, color science, 3D weaving, electrospinning,
fashion studio, filament extrusion, and management science
lab.
The
Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management
educates undergraduate and graduate students for careers
in the fiber, textile, fashion, and retail complex. Degrees
awarded include the BS degree in Textile Technology,
BS degree in Textile and Apparel Management, MS in Textiles
and College-wide PhD’s in Fiber and Polymer Science
and Textile Technology Management. Faculty in the Department
is required to teach courses of study at both the undergraduate
and graduate levels and contribute substantially to research
for the textile, fashion, retail, and allied industries.
The
Department is searching for faculty with expertise in
the areas of “Product Design and Development.” Responsibilities
include providing teaching and research leadership and
promoting student learning in product design and development.
It is envisaged that the successful candidates will be
proficient in computer aided design, product lifecycle
management systems, and technologies that convert fibers
and polymer materials into products that meet the needs
of end uses and consumers worldwide. Successful candidates
will be able to demonstrate competence in a set of methodologies
that can match product attributes and business evaluation
criteria to the needs of the specific market. Candidates
should be able to communicate and work effectively with
faculty, students, laboratory equipment and staff, and
international/industry experience is preferable. Faculty
rank may be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor
level depending upon qualifications and experience.
Candidates
must have a relevant PhD from a recognized university
or equivalent terminal academic qualifications, demonstrated
teaching ability, and be able to prepare proposals and
attract research funds for independent scholarly research.

Textile Off-campus Programing (TOP)
The
NC State University Textile Off-campus Programing (TOP) program is a distance
education program designed to provide textile undergraduate
and graduate courses to any individual seeking an improved
textiles education or background (credit or audit).
The present delivery system is predominantly video
tape, but the use of interactive CDs and on-line delivery
will shortly be available for a number of course offerings.
Certification and master's degrees in textiles can
be obtained via TOP without a residence requirement.

Call for Papers
Journal of Textile and Apparel Technology and Management
Forthcoming Issue on
“Filtration”
The
rising awareness of environmental agencies and the general
public for a clean environment together with demands of
many advanced industries, such as electronics, medical,
pharmaceutical, and biological research, have urged the
filtration industry to investigate on innovative methods
of filtrations. A future issue of the Journal of Textile
and Apparel, Technology and Management (JTATM), to appear
June 15, 2006, will focus on “Filtration”.
This issue of JTATM will provide a collection of articles
that bring together the current thrusts of academic and
industry inquiry to provide information for future business
needs and directions.
Manuscripts, conceptual and empirical, which broaden and
deepen understanding of filtration science and technology,
are invited. Specific papers which address air filtration,
liquid filtration, design and new product development, experiment
and modeling are of special interest.
Possible
topics may include, but are not limited to:
· Analytical, numerical, statistical, and experimental studies
in gas and liquid filtration
· Application of woven and nonwoven materials in gas and liquid
filtration
· Filters with enhanced surface properties, self-decontaminating
and antimicrobial filters
· Nanofibers filters
· Product development in filtration area
· Future market of filtration media
· UV filtration
· Filters in automotive applications
· Geotextiles
