ITMA Sponsors NCSU Students for Home Furnishings Tour

The International Textile Market Association held their seventh annual industry symposium "Fabric from Concept to Consumer" in High Point, N.C. on January 25-27th. Students and faculty from leading university programs in textiles and design were invited to attend. Students participated from East Carolina University, Kansas City Art Institute, NCSU, Philadelphia University, Savannah College of Art& Design, Syracuse University, University of Kansas, and University of Nebraska.

Four students from North Carolina State University programs participated. Anni Albers Scholars, Sarah Bost and Diana Razulis; Lisa Jeffries from the College of Textiles, and Industrial Design major, Krzysztof Leszczynkski of the College of Design attended. Razulis commented "The ITMA trip was very enlightening and a definite eye-opener."

The students were hosted for three days in High Point, N.C. and traveled to Charlotte, Winston Salem and the Hickory area to see various areas of design, product development and furniture showrooms. Additionally the tour included visits to weaving, printing and finishing operations. ITMA member companies welcoming the group included Valdese Weavers, Wesley Mancini Design Studio, Century Furniture, Clyde Pearson Furniture, TieTex Fabrics, and Microfibres.

The students were able to bring portfolio for review and input by ITMA members during a dinner at the String & Splinter Club. Catherine Morsell, ITMA Director, noted, " We want to make the tour educational, interesting, and fun for the students and faculty". This introduction to the home furnishings industry is an important investment in the future leaders of the industry.
