Textile/Apparel International Trade Conference

International Market Solutions (IMS), in conjunction with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC)  sponsored a half day conference in Greensboro, NC on October  24, 2007.

The conference was well attended with over 90 participants, including 11 speakers.  The thrust of the conference was two fold:

  1. To generate interest in NC textile/apparel companies doing business with Hong Kong companies for two way trade relationships.
  2. To highlight the fact that there is still a diverse and vibrant textile/apparel industry in NC—it is just different from what it was only a few years ago.

Speakers included senior representatives from major NC companies such as HanesBrands, Vanity Fair, Culp Inc., American and Efried, and the International Textile Group.

In addition there were speakers from Hong Kong, an attorney specializing in international trade, Dean Blanton Godfrey of the NC State College of Textiles, representatives from the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the United States Department of Commerce, and two graduate students from the NC State College of Textiles.

The program was opened by Jorman Fields of IMS and the two panels were moderated by Jim Leonard of IMS and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) and Dr. Jim Weeks, Dean of the Bryan Business School at UNCG.

It is important to note that this conference had speakers from the two largest apparel companies in the world, one of the largest upholstery companies in the country, the largest thread company in the country, one of the largest textile companies in the country, and the premier textile college -- all headquartered in North Carolina!
