Woods   Guidelines
Users (and their guests) are required to:
  • use the premises at your own risk (there are no lifeguards or maintained swimming areas)
  • lock the gate after you enter and as you leave Key Haven
  • obey all State and local traffic laws while operating a vehicle at Key Haven
  • pack out all trash (including cigarette butts!)
  • use the privies (keep the woods clean underfoot!)
  • exercise caution and care with camp fires: put out your fire
  • respect other campers enjoyment of peace and quiet
  • maintain responsible use of pets
  • report, but do not move, any hazardous looking materials that may have been dumped on the site (call local emergency management (911) or the Army Corps of Engineers Resource Manager (434-738-6662) if hazardous materials are found).
Users (and their guests) must not:
  • leave boats, trailers, or camping equipment from one visit to the next
  • use motor vehicles off the roads or use any unlicensed vehicle on the site
  • dump waste water anywhere on the site
  • block circle drive near the point
  • possess firearms or fireworks on the site
Users (and their guests) are encouraged to:
  • help maintain roadways and trails by trimming back encroaching foliage
  • remove fallen branches from roads and trails
  • make improvements , but any major projects or projects involving digging must have the approval of the Key Haven Committee. No improvements may be made near the lake.
  • pick up other people's litter (some of these "other people" are non-key holders)
  • clear the beach of debris, washed-up trash, and fallen branches
  • keep the privies tidy
  • help drain road puddles by cleaning road drainage run outs
  • participate in the Spring work day each year
  • introduce yourself to others, determine the identity of other users, and interpret these "Guidelines" to others when requested
  • clear any brush and small saplings (under 4" in diameter) which encroach upon a camp site which you occupy. Larger saplings and trees must not be cut unless they are dead and pose a hazard.
