Susan McLean
Susan's nursing and clinical expertise comes primarily from Duke University Medical Center where she was employed for 27 years within the areas of surgical trauma critical care, neuroscience critical care, and the Duke Heart Center. She served as the Hospital Administrator for the Duke Operating rooms for five years and served as the Senior Associate Chief Operating Officer for the hospital, 2001 through 2004. She is currently working collaboratively with North Carolina State University as a Six Sigma Black Belt, and has contracted with SAS Institute to teach Error Proofing Healthcare across the United States and Canada. Her passion and areas of influence are in leadership effectiveness training, team building, executive coaching, and designing error proofing strategies and tools that will reduce and eliminate medical errors.
Her extensive consulting experience, both internally, for Duke University, and externally, to other organizations, over the years, her regional and national presentations on Perioperative Services, Organizational Redesign, and Leadership effectiveness, as well as her corporate partnership experiences, have enabled her to influence research based changes at the multidisciplinary practice level within many institutions. Susan received her BSN from East Carolina University and her Masters degree from Duke University.
