Certification

NC State University offers training and certification for Green Belts, Black Belts and Master Black Belts. Each belt level has several requirements for certification.

Green Belt Certification Requirements:

  • Complete 2-week training course
  • Pass course examination
  • Complete a Lean Six Sigma project at your organization
  • Submit an Application for Certification (link)
  • Submit your project and presentation for review
  • Your project will be reviewed by members of the Six Sigma Team and management at your organization
  • Once the review process is complete, you will be awarded your Green Belt certification

Black Belt Certification Requirements:

  • Complete 4-week training course, or for previously certified Green Belts, complete the 2-week +2 course.
  • Pass course examination
  • Complete a Lean Six Sigma project at your organization
  • Submit an Application for Certification (link)
  • Submit your project and presentation for review
  • Your project will be reviewed by members of the Six Sigma Team and management at your organization
  • Once the review process is complete, you will be awarded your Black Belt certification

Master Black Belt Certification Requirements:

  • Submit a portfolio demonstrating the following 4 competencies:
    1. Demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge from course material.
      • Complete the 4-week training course and a 1-week elective
      • Pass course examinations
      • Provide specific examples of application of course material to your business
    2. Teaching Skills
      • Copies of courses/modules developed
      • Instructor’s guide for modules developed
      • Course evaluations
    3. Coaching/Mentoring
      • Project list
      • Storyboard of completed projects
      • Meeting agendas
      • Letters of Recommendation, 1 each:
        • Supervisor
        • Green or Black Belt coached
    4. 2nd example
      • Teaching skills or
      • Additional examples of coaching/mentoring
  • Submit an Application for Certification (coming soon)
  • Your portfolio will be reviewed by members of the Six Sigma Team and management at your organization
  • Once the review process is complete, you will be awarded your Master Black Belt certification
