Process Simulation with SIMIO®

Systems rarely perform exactly as predicted owing to process variability. Variability is inherent in all processes whether these processes are concerned with manufacturing a product within a plant, producing product via an entire supply chain complex or providing a service in the retail, banking, entertainment or hospital environment. Simulation modeling adds value to your projects by accurately replicating complex environments, testing operational alternatives, and quantifying potential results and performance expectations in chaotic environments, where high variability is present.

Simio® is a brand new very powerful simulation technology that is going to revolutionize the simulation industry (http://www.simio.biz). Simio® makes modeling dramatically easier for the beginner by providing a new paradigm that radically changes the way objects are built and used. You select objects from libraries and graphically place them in your model. Simio® seamlessly integrates the object and process modeling paradigms to combine the ease of use of pre-built objects with the flexibility of processes to give you a more accurate portrayal of your system. The new paradigm provides experts the ability to extend and enhance the simulation language like no other simulation technology without low-level programming. Simio® software is easy for the non-experienced simulation user to use and build process simulations. NCSU is one of the few training partners of the new company.

Classes will be of interest to operations managers and personnel in industries such as health care, defense, national security, mining, shipping, airports, supply chain, and manufacturing. Simulation software is used to help minimize the risk of capital investments and clarify lean operation initiatives.

NCSU Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt program participants may substitute attending Course II, Introduction to Simulation with Simio® Software, and Course III, Advanced Simulation using Simio® Software, of the Simio® training for one Master Black Belt module.

Prerequisites are: general familiarity with computer programs like Excel®, JMP™, Minitab™ and basic understanding of statistics. The course is designed in three parts over five days with participants choosing the parts they would like to attend.

Simio® training software will be offered July 20-24, 2009 at the NC State University College of Textiles.

  1. Monday, July 20, 2009:
    Course I - Simulation Fundamentals
One day overview for people who have no previous simulation experience with an introduction to simulation, statistics and distributions.
    Course I registration fee: $500.00
  2. Tuesday, July 21 and Wednesday, July 22, 2009:
Course II - Introduction to Simulation with Simio® Software
An introduction to process simulation with Simio®
    Course II registration fee: $1000.00
  3. Thursday, July 23 and Friday, July 24, 2009
Course III - Advanced Simulation using Simio® Software
An advanced study of simulation topics with Simio®.
    Course III registration fee: $1000.00

Even those with little to no simulation experience will be able to participate in all 5 days of training because of our hands-on approach to training. The course is designed to teach you all aspects of simulation modeling. For the people who have experience with another simulation tool (e.g., Arena®), the last four days will be appropriate.

Register before July 13, 2009 and receive a discount of $500.00 if registering for more than one session!

Please contact Jeff Joines for additional course information or Melissa Gardner for registration information.
