Lean
Six Sigma – Kevin Grayson and Christy Guion
March 31st - April 3rd, 2009 - Register Now!
Course Description:
While organizations have historically had success integrating lean and six sigma separately, many organizations are now learning that the two methodologies, when integrated and implemented as one, brings better results, faster. Lean Six Sigma is the natural merging of the two methods. Six Sigma brings more structure to Lean thinking while applying Lean during improvement projects, results in less complex processes, running at their optimum speed.
In this module we will discuss the integration of lean and six sigma methodologies. The objective of the course is to add lean tools to the six sigma practitioner’s tool box. You will learn:
- The benefits of integrating lean and six sigma
- The eight forms of waste (“muda”) found in all organizations
- How to use core lean tools such as Value Stream Maps, 5S and Visual Controls, 10 point kaizen, and standardized work
- Which lean tools to use during a six sigma project and when in the DMAIC method to apply them
This class is appropriate for anyone who has completed a six sigma course that focused only on the standard six sigma tool box, and/or wishes to enhance their learning related to lean; the elimination of waste and the cost of poor quality.
Pre-requisites:
- Bring to the class, an example of a complex or error prone process that you believe has wastes that can be eliminated. Solicit feedback from your colleagues as needed before the session to gain insight into what works, what doesn’t work and where the issues lie.
- During the class, be prepared to apply lean tools to the process and create a lean sigma presentation using DMAIC.
Software:
No software will be needed for this course.
