The Program

This study abroad course will teach you about North Carolina’ third largest trading partner – Mexico.  You will learn about another culture and business environment, and this experience will expose you to Mexico, the culture, and global textile business opportunities and analyses. Traveling with a business delegation from North Carolina (the Export Ready Program), you will attend the EXINTEX Expo textile trade show and get a first hand look at global business in action.  In addition to trade show functions, you will meet with North Carolina Department of Commerce international trade specialists, United States’ Embassy personnel, other business and government leaders, and the U.S./Mexico Chamber of Commerce.

As part of the course, you will collaborate with personnel representing a North Carolina textile company.  This collaboration will involve the company’s EXINTEX trade show marketing efforts;  you are to work closely with personnel from this company to identify your contribution, which will also include completing a  research project as part of the 3-hour course Spring 2007 (undergraduate students will register for TAM 494; graduate students will register for TTM 630).  Potential research project topics include trade show marketing strategies (identification, and validating effectiveness), trade opportunities, NAFTA strategy for textile companies, and other global business project topics related to the North Carolina textile industry. Applicants for this program must be currently enrolled in the NC State College of Textiles, with College of Textiles’ senior standing in hours completed toward a College undergraduate degree program, or currently enrolled in the College of Textiles’ graduate program.
