The Analytical Instrumentation and Services Lab is part of the Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science Department at the College of Textiles.

This lab was designed to expose and introduce undergraduate and graduate students to modern analytical chemistry instrumentation and techniques. It also functions as a facility that provides students with the capability of performing high quality analyses in support of their research and as part of the future Forensic Center that may offer an undergraduate degree in forensic sciences.

The lab offers technical service work to outside clients and private individuals for a fee equivalent to those charged by NC commercial testing labs. We perform a number of wet chemistry tests as well as analyses utilizing analytical instrumentation. Please note that this is NOT a certified testing lab as our mission is on an educational basis rather than for profit. Due to university policy we are required to establish a legal contract called a "Testing and Services Agreement" (TSA) with each new client prior to any service performed. Information regarding testing capabilities and fees can be obtained through the Lab Manager.

An overview of available instrumentation is given below. Wet chemistry analyses like solvent extractions, fiber burn outs and other AATCC methods are not individually listed, but can be quoted upon request.

Out of courtesy to our diverse range of clients we do not offer any services related to reverse engineering. The lab is under the supervision of Dr. Keith Beck (919-515-6558) and managed by Mrs. Birgit Andersen (919-515-6590) who performs the analyses.
